My First Wedding Shower

Is it crazy that I’m 24 and have never been to a wedding shower? Maybe my mom dragged me along to one as a kid that I’ve blocked out, but my cousin’s was the first I can remember.  And as a bridesmaid I was involved in the actual showering. No experience required apparently. Luckily, this was the shower put on by my family for her and her fiance so minimal pressure.  My mom and aunts did all the work and I thought I’d share some of their cutest ideas.

This was a family shower for the couple with children invited. All of my cousins have their lives together with young children so it only made sense to include them.  My mom put together these little personalized buckets for each child filled with toys and a few treats.  It was great for them to feel included and not just forced to come hang out with adults for the day.

Other than the prosecco mimosas, these herbs were my favorite aspect of the shower.  My aunt works at a nursery and brought a handful of potted herbs wrapped adorably in burlap and ribbon. We placed them throughout the house on tables where people would be eating and then the couple was able to take them home! They just purchased a house with a back porch and balcony off the second floor and these will be the perfect way to start a garden. I just love anything with multiple uses so something that can be decor and also food definitely works for me.

My mom also made these little soaps for all the ladies to take home with them. She used a soap base, coconut oil, sugar, and essential oils to create these perfect little gifts. Pretty sure she bought everything she needed, including the molds, on Amazon. She’s so crafty and creative. That quality must skip generations.

It was such a well done yet casual day.  We catered in barbecue and then had everyone bring a side dish. Tables were set up throughout the house so people could sit wherever and mingle. We don’t all live close so the shower was also a chance to visit with family, something I rarely get to do as I live pretty far away. I’m so excited for the wedding because we haven’t had one in the family for years! And now we have two in three weeks! I’m definitely looking forward to a season of being with family.

It was such a great day spent celebrating the happy couple. I feel like it was an easy introduction into the world of wedding preparation which I desperately needed: four weddings in 2018 & four friends who are well on their way to weddings. I’m gonna need all the prep I can get.
